A New Haus In Town

Back in 2015, I started working on LDH simply as a creative outlet, which at the time, was something I was seriously lacking from my day job in TV Commercial Production. I wasn't the one making the commercials, I was the one behind the scenes handling miscellaneous paperwork, contracts, and fulfilling Starbucks orders. Although I was grateful to be in an industry people dream of being in and for the people I met along the way, I was miserable working 60-90+ hours a week. Yes, you read that right, 90+.

So I started to ask myself, what do I want to create? What will I enjoy doing? Growing up I was very much into the arts and always found true happiness in creating art. Whether it was sketching in my sketchbook, painting some random canvas, or creating scale models of buildings from scratch (I went to University for Architecture), I was happiest making with my hands.

So I went with candles. It was an idea I toyed with for years prior- ever since my introduction to luxury candles. An industry I didn't even know existed.

Before 2015, I hadn't the slightest clue about how to make a candle. How hard could it be really? All those shops on Etsy made it look so easy.

Since I'm a perfectionist, I spent a year researching candle-making, fragrance-making, and how other brands did it.

Turns out, not all waxes are created equal. The same goes for the wicks and the fragrance oils. I tested a variety of waxes, wicks, and fragrances and finally found an equation that gave me the results I wanted.

What was I searching for? An affordable and a fragrant candle that doesn't leave wax on the sides of the container.

By 2016, I had my first three fragrances: Night Bloom, Lime + Neroli, Oak + Tabak. And the Haus was born.
